Job Description

Opportunity: The City of Albany’s Developed Reserves Team is looking for an experienced, skilled and motivated individual to take up the role of Leading Hand – Street Trees and Playgrounds.

Reporting to the Developed Reserves Supervisor, this role will see you responsible for This position is responsible for the daily supervision of the street trees, playgrounds and maintenance teams in a manner which complies with the City’s specified work standards.

Desired Skills and Experience

About You: Experience in the use of a wide range of plant and equipment, including but not limited to chainsaws, Elevated Work Platforms (EWP), mowers, and other specialised arboriculture or horticulture machinery. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of safely operating and maintaining this equipment in both routine and high-profile environments. Experience in interpreting operational plans and ensuring compliance with safety standards is essential.

The successful candidate will also need strong leadership and supervisory skills, demonstrated by their ability to manage a team, provide guidance to apprentices, and foster a collaborative work environment. They must possess the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, exercising sound judgment to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines. A commitment to safe work practices is crucial, ensuring compliance with Work Health and Safety (WHS) regulations and policies. The role also requires a high level of physical fitness, capable of performing manual labour, such as pruning, planting, and playground maintenance, in various outdoor conditions.

Additionally, the candidate should hold relevant qualifications in arboriculture or horticulture, such as a Certificate IV, as well as accreditations such as a "C" class driver’s license, Basic Traffic Management, and Basic Resuscitation. Desirable qualifications include an HR class driver’s license, EWP ticket, and chainsaw accreditation, with at least three years of full-time supervisory experience.
