Job Description

About the Role      

The City of Albany is seeking an experienced and motivated Airport Coordinator to play a key role in the safe, efficient and sustainable operation of Albany Regional Airport.

This position offers the opportunity to work hands-on in a complex operational environment while also contributing to strategic planning, infrastructure development and continuous improvement initiatives that support regional connectivity and economic growth.

Reporting to the Manager Economic Development and Commercial Services, the Airport Coordinator is responsible for coordinating daily airport operations across airside, landside and terminal environments, while providing clear leadership to Airport Reporting Officers.

The role balances operational oversight with longer-term planning and project delivery. You will be trusted to manage compliance, safety, stakeholder relationships and improvement projects, ensuring initiatives are followed through and delivered to a high standard.

This position is suitable for applicants’ demonstrating capability at Level 8, with scope to operate at Level 9 for candidates with advanced experience, technical expertise and leadership capability.

Key responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily airport operations to ensure safe, compliant and efficient service delivery
  • Provide Aerodrome Reporting Officer (ARO) services, including aircraft refuelling and incident response as required
  • Oversee airside safety systems, inspections, audits and investigations, ensuring timely corrective actions
  • Lead and supervise Airport Reporting Officers, fostering accountability, capability development and consistent performance
  • Coordinate aircraft parking, airside vehicle operations and operational documentation
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with airlines, contractors, regulators, emergency services and internal stakeholders
  • Contribute to emergency preparedness and response, including planning and conducting emergency exercises
  • Coordinate and contribute to airport infrastructure, maintenance and asset management projects
  • Take ownership of larger operational and improvement projects, ensuring they are well planned and delivered through to completion
  • Support budgeting, cost control and long-term planning to ensure sustainable airport operations
  • Contribute to strategic initiatives that enhance the airport precinct, visitor experience and regional economic outcomes

What we’re looking for

We are seeking a practical, accountable and people-focused professional who brings strong operational discipline and a commitment to delivering results.

You will bring:

  • Demonstrated experience in airport operations or a similarly regulated operational environment
  • Sound knowledge of aviation safety, compliance and risk management, including the ability to apply regulatory requirements in practice
  • Clear leadership capability, with experience supervising staff and holding teams accountable for performance
  • Strong organisational and project coordination skills, with a proven ability to see complex tasks through to completion
  • Well-developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Commercial and asset management awareness, with experience contributing to budgets and improvement initiatives
  • Alignment with the City of Albany’s values and a genuine commitment to serving the community

Tertiary qualifications in airport management, engineering or a related field, current ARO qualifications, and relevant industry experience will be highly regarded.
